Gilead’s Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing (PDM) Technical Development Center Groundbreaking Ceremony

Gilead marked a significant milestone in the development of its new Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing (PDM) Technical Development Center with a groundbreaking ceremony held at its headquarters in Foster City. 

Spanning 182,000 square feet of lab and office space, the five-story facility is designed to enhance the company’s capabilities in oncology, inflammation, and protein therapeutics process development. It also included flexible space to accommodate future growth and emerging scientific needs.

Set to open in the second quarter of 2027, the facility marked a significant advancement in Gilead’s mission to drive global health innovation.

Supervisor Lisa Gauthier’s Climate Resilience Roundtable with Zambia Delegation

San Mateo County’s District 4’s Supervisor Lisa Gauthier hosted a roundtable discussion with a delegation from Zambia, alongside San Mateo County elected officials, community members, and business leaders, to explore sustainable infrastructure and climate innovation.

The Zambian delegation visited San Mateo County to learn from its approaches to sustainable development and climate-forward initiatives.

The roundtable highlighted the County’s leadership in green civic design and innovation, while also emphasizing the critical role of business and economic leadership in driving these efforts forward.

Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s AI Implications for Workforce Development and Economic Mobility

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s EmergingTech Economic Research Network (EERN) hosted a discussion exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping workforce development and influencing pathways to economic advancement.

Held at its headquarters in San Francisco, the event examined how AI technologies affect labor markets, particularly for low- and moderate-income workers. 

Through expert insights and research, the session aimed to shed light on emerging trends and the challenges and opportunities they present for building a more inclusive economic future.

As a highlight of the City of South San Francisco’s recent What's Happening East of 101? A Biotech Speaker Series, Genentech was spotlighted for its legacy and leadership in biotechnology.

From its historic beginnings in South San Francisco to its ongoing innovations, Genentech has been instrumental in advancing healthcare and making a lasting impact locally and around the world.

Attendees gained valuable insights from Dr. Nicole Richie, Vice President and Global Head of Health Impact & Population Science at Genentech, on the advancement of inclusive research and its critical role in driving equitable healthcare outcomes.

The Foster City Chamber of Commerce held its inaugural State of the Peninsula event, bringing together leaders from government, business, tourism, and economic development for a timely and solution-focused discussion about the future of San Mateo County at the Crowne Plaza Foster City-San Mateo in Foster City.

Grand Boulevard Initiative’s Task Force Meeting

The Grand Boulevard Initiative (GBI), recently revitalized with renewed energy, is focused on transforming the future of mobility along El Camino Real.

At the GBI Task Force meeting at Library Parks and Recreation Center in South San Francisco, city representatives and key stakeholders came together to review project updates and hear panel discussions.

Leadership Council San Mateo County’s Welcome Reception for Class of 2026

Leadership Council San Mateo County kicked off the Class of 2026 with a welcome reception, marking the start of a 10-month leadership program for the incoming cohorts at the Burlingame Community Center in Burlingame.

Alumni of the Emerging Leaders and Leadership CORPS programs gathered at the event to reunite with peers and warmly welcome the incoming class. 

One Life Counseling Center’s 10-Year Night of Inspiration

The Night of Inspiration served as One Life Counseling Center’s signature fundraising event, uniting community leaders, mental health advocates, and dedicated supporters for an evening of connection, hope, and transformation at Domenico Winery in San Carlos.

This year marked the celebration of 10 years of strength, endurance, and stability, reflecting on the many lives impacted and looking ahead to expanding the organization’s reach.

Pacific Coast Fog Fest

Since its founding in 1986, the Pacific Coast Fog Fest has become a beloved annual celebration of Pacifica’s vibrant community and breathtaking coastline. 

Held on the last full weekend of September, the festival draws visitors from near and far to experience the city’s unique charm.

Attendees explore a variety of arts and crafts booths, delicious food and beverages, enjoy live music and entertainment, and participate in family-friendly activities.

Congressman Kevin Mullin (D-CA-15), a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-CO), Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, hosted a roundtable discussion on rare diseases at Ultragenyx in Brisbane. 

The event highlighted groundbreaking rare disease treatments emerging from California’s life sciences sector and explored key policies essential to advancing these innovations and ensuring patient access to life-changing therapies.

Chamber San Mateo County and SAMCEDA hosted the 12th Annual Birdies for Business Golf Tournament at the renowned Stanford Golf Course.

The event provided a unique opportunity for members, partners, and community leaders to connect while raising critical funds to support ongoing programs and initiatives that promote economic development and regional vitality across San Mateo County.

Held at City View at Metreon in San Francisco, the Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center’s Small Business BIG IMPACT gala offered a lively celebration of Bay Area entrepreneurs and their contributions to the local economy while celebrating its 40th anniversary,

The event showcased a bustling marketplace filled with unique products, food, and beverages from Renaissance-supported businesses.

It also honored three standout entrepreneurs for their exceptional contributions to their communities and the meaningful impact of their work.
