SAMCEDA, the voice of business on the Peninsula, representing 150 of the region’s largest employers has taken the following positions on Propositions on the upcoming election that effect the region’s ability to provide adequate housing supply, reduce traffic congestion, provide a healthy business climate and increase the overall quality of life for residents.   As a matter of policy SAMCEDA does not take positions on individual candidates. SAMCEDA urges all citizens to exercise their privilege and responsibility to vote.

BALLOT MEASURES

Local Measure 1A.  Parks for the Future Bond Act San Mateo County.
As the Mid Peninsula Regional Open Space district intends to use these funds for enhancement to existing parks, rather than land acquisition, we recommend support

Prop 1A -Transportation Investment Fund

Prop 1B - Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air Quality, Port

Prop 1E - Disaster Preparedness and Flood Prevention Bond Act of 2006.

Prop 1D K-University Public Education Facilities Bond

Proposition 87 Tax on Ca Oil to fund Alternative Energy. Research, Production,

Proposition 88 Real Property Parcel Tax for statewide Education Funding.
Samceda supports education, but not at the expense of home development.

Proposition 89   Corporate Tax Increase for Public Financing of Political Campaigns.

Proposition 90 Government Acquisition, Regulation of Private Property.
Too severely inhibits local government’s ability to promote projects that are in the best interest of the public good. Matters such as these should be contained in legislation, rather than as a part of the constitution.
